Wailea Beach Activities
Swim in the crystal clear water at Wailea Beach and walk on plush, soft sand for a true Maui vacation in paradise. You can explore this lovely crescent shaped beach from our Wailea rentals or on the popular Wailea Beach Walk. It has famous neighbors too at the Four Seasons and Grand Wailea Resorts.
Wailea means, “water of Lea,” who is the goddess of Hawaiian canoe makers. Originally called, Kahamanini Beach, the current name was started by the Matson Navigation Company years ago after they purchased the coastal areas.
There are many Maui activities to enjoy here and places to rent boogie boards, chairs and other gear for enjoying a day under the Maui sun. Swimming and snorkeling is best on either side of the beach (right is better). There are interesting coral gardens too. Expect to see a multitude of fish while enjoying Maui snorkeling. Wailea Beach is also popular with our Honu, the Hawaiian green sea turtle.
Waves are tame most of the year. Sunrise is the least crowded time to enjoy Wailea Beach. The views are always amazing though with Kaho’olawe and Molokini in the distance. This is a fantastic place to watch Hawaii humpback whales in winter and is a perfect backdrop for surreal Maui sunsets.
Facilities: Restrooms, outdoor showers, restaurants nearby.
Best for: Swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing and walking.
Directions: Limited free parking at the blue shoreline access sign, on Wailea Alanui Drive. This is the second of five Maui beaches that are part of the Wailea Resort complex.
